Auckland Unitary Plan Changes: What does this mean for you ?

Now, more than ever, land is at a premium in Auckland. Earlier the Government and Auckland Council responded to growing demand with a proposed plan to free up land for new homes. The unitary plan was approved on the 19th August 2016 and with this comes changes allowing for greater density across the Auckland region.

Where once people keen to subdivide and build had to navigate the 99 residential zones in Auckland’s District Plan and Resource Management Act 1991, the Auckland Unitary Plan will provide a much more enabling framework design to create better quality housing and develop Auckland into the ‘world’s most liveable city’.

The Proposed Auckland Unitary Plan was notified back on 30th September 2013 and the scale of participation in this process over three years demonstrates the importance of the plan to Auckland and to provide a more integrated and coherent strategy for management of the region’s resources moving forward.
